ABL’s animal facilities are located in Rockville, Maryland. We currently operate a ~35,000 square-foot Animal Biosafety Level 2/3 (ABSL-2/3) containment area. ABL's animal facility is USDA-registered and is accredited by the American Association for the Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC), an association widely recognized for its standards of excellence in laboratory animal care. As an accredited organization, ABL complies with all policies of the "Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals," DHHS (NIH 85-23), Animal Welfare (DHHS-TN 73-2) the NIH Manual Issuance 4206 and 6000-3-4-58, "Responsibility for Care and Use of Animals CDC/NIH 4th edition”, “Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories,” and Public Health Service Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. ABL has a Category 1 assurance from OLAW of the Public Health Service.
ABL has been performing vital non human primate (NHP) studies for government and commercial clients for over 30 years. We have a wealth of experience and capabilties to help clients answer their research questions and aid with candidate selection. We regularly perform both small and large client studies and are able to peform the necessary animal manipulations along with a majority of the associated testing (efficacy/Potency testing link). All NHPs go through a rigorous prescreening before they arrive at ABL’s location and are tested again during our mandatory 60-day quarantine to ensure the animals meet the requirements. The testing includes a viral panel (e.g., SIV, SRV, STLV, measles and Herpes B virus) within 30 days prior to shipment to ABL’s animal facility which is preformed again during the quarantine period.
